Need Some Help With a Title *Please*

Hi friends! I had a content editor review my MS, Forbidden Wall ~ Forbidden Love, and she recommended changing the title to something sexier. So that you understand a bit about the book, my pitch is below:

Highborn and privileged, Valeria has never known life outside her father’s Roman fortress. But when Hadrian’s Wall falls, Valeria’s world shatters.

Ripped from her bed, Valeria is captured by savage barbarians. Terrified, she prays her betrothed will mount a rescue. But it is the enemy—Taran—a Pict with Celtic tattoos and hair of fire who wields his sword and fights for her freedom.

Valeria seeks refuge in the Pict stronghold of Dunpelder. The Picts eye her with distrust and she must earn her keep as a commoner…But the longer she remains, the more agonizing it becomes to conceal her growing love for Taran, the redheaded king of the Picts.

Some of the ideas I have are:

HER PAINTED PICT WARRIOR
ROMAN LADY ~ PICT KING
THE PICT'S WOMAN
PICT QUEEN
THE PICT'S DESIRE
RESCUED BY THE ENEMY

Any suggestions you have would be much appreciated!!!

~Amy

  1. I kinda like The Pict's Woman...

    Brainstorming:

    Her Pict Guardian
    Roman Lady's Pict
    Lady's Pict Warrior
    Lady's Warrior
    The Warrior's Heart
    Pict Haven
    Haven's Heart
    Roman's Warrior
    Pict King's Heart
    King's Roman Heart
    Roman Lady's Heart

  3. Amy, I like where you're going with the title, but I struggle with the word Pict. It's harsh-sounding and abrupt, not romantic. Consider a synonym...possibly one for blue like azure. It's softer and sexier and if you couple it with a jacket cover of a red-haired man with blue tattoos, it will make sense. Good luck!

  4. Good suggestions, Mikko - I agree about the Pict comment, especially. A lot of people won't know who the Picts are until they read the first few pages as well.

  5. Amy - Captivated by the enemy?

    Cheers

  6. Ah yes, "captivated" is a GREAT word!

  7. I like :
    the Warrior's Heart
    Rescued by the Enemy
    Captivated by the Enemy

Here are some brainstorm ideas to add to the mix:

    Love your enemy
    Enemies'Desire
    Enemies in Love
    Enemies at Heart
    Warrior's Love

Heart's (or Hearts') Desire (corny but...)

    Roman fortress Celtic Rescue
    Rescued by Love

Other appealing words associated with your pitch:
Fortress, Rescue, Refuge, Celtic, Highland, Siege,

Hope my brainstorming isn't too wild.

I agree with the Pict comments.

  8. Hi there – you may know about it already but I wanted to remind you about Weekend Cooking at Beth Fish Reads. It is a lovely little linky party where booky blogs link up something about food or cookbooks over the weekend. It was the very first blog hop I ever stumbled over so I have fond thoughts about it. Please do pop by and link up.

  10. My two cents -

    Roman Heart, Pict/Celtic Soul
    Valeria's Honor
    The Barbarian's Heart
    The Pict's Honor

I liked the Forbidden Wall.... But...
    The Forbidden Country
    A Barbarian's Love
    To Love a Pict
    Conform to Love
    Forsaken Country
    Her PIct Savior
    Her Barbarian Savior
    Her Pict Heart
    A Pict's Desire

  11. Wow, thanks Indigo...A couple more that I've come up with:

    Rescued by the Celtic Warrior
    Innocent Betrayal

  12. CAPTIVATED BY THE BARBARIAN or CAPTIVATED BY THE CELTIC WARRIOR or
    Rescued by the Celtic Warrior
    These are all appealing.

  13. Hi Amy - another thought
Picked by Fate, Captivated by Her Heart

Probably too long but I quite liked the word play Pict and Picked

  14. Carole - That is cute - Picked!! My funny title is Beauty and the Barbarian...if it was a lighter novel, I'd definitely go for that :-)

  15. I kind of like how "captivated" works with "barbarian".

Playing off of the earlier "Roman Heart, Celtic Soul" what about Roman Heart, Celtic Fire?" (What with his hair being red and all....)

    Titles are so much fun!
