A-Z Challenge - K For Komondor

If my breed wasn't Chihuahua, I'd have a Komondor. A member of the Working Group, these are the coolest dogs on the planet with their long, corded coats. They have imposing strength and a courageous demeanor. An excellent house guard, they are wary of strangers. As a guardian of herds, they are faithful and devoted protectors.

Dogs are 25.5 inches, bitches 23.5 inches.

For the A-Z Challenge, I am blogging about dog breeds to celebrate the July 28 release of my novel, Chihuahua Momma.

  5. I remember seeing one of those dogs once, and thinking it was mistreated (hence the long corded coat), I was going to call the SPCA. Then ... I recognised it as being a Komondor!

  6. Wow, this dog is amazing. I doesn't look real. I bet it takes a lot of work to maintain that kind of coat. Great series. I'm going to check out the other posts! (:

  7. Oh, Komodors are most unique! We see them all the time on televised dog shows. Their coat is like a sophisticated floor mop! I would imagine they're quite a challenge to groom, though. It would seem it would be difficult to keep the cords in their coats from getting tangled or matted. Does anyone have one?
Our dog is a Staffordshire Terrier mix. His name is Elliott and he's on the cover of two of my children's books. He's even an important character in the stories. If you'd like to read more about him, please visit; www.dhdunne.blogspot.com.

    1. I have a friend that shows Komondors. They have to bathe them 3 days before a show, and then they wear slinkys that cover 100% of their bodies to keep them clean for the ring. And it takes three years for the dreads to completely form. Yes. They are a lot of work!
